Fishing Collectibles Books
How to value fly-fishing collectibles and equipment.
Books and buyers guides.
Books and buyers guides.
When I review books I generally start by reviewing books I own or have read.
Then I look in Amazon.com for readers reviews (usually a good guide)
If these are consistently poor reviews then I just do not review the book.

It would be foolish to go to an auction without any idea of what something is worth.
Yet many people get caught up in the excitement of bidding for Fly Fishing equipment without considering what the item they are bidding for REALLY is worth.
This pocket guide will solve that problem completely
Amazon .com says :
Instant Expert: Fly Fishing Collectibles
A practical and informative illustrated overview of items from rods and reels
to hooks and flies, with all the history, jargon, market trends and resources
needed to be an instant expert.

And that is a nice way of saying that this is a great basic guide to buying
good quality fishing equipment.

Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers
These are some reviews from Amazon.com :
This is by far the best book that I have read and read and re-read on
fly fishing tackle. The history of early bamboo fly rod makers is
extraordinary, very informative and extremely interesting. If you are
interested in fly fishing rods and reels, this book is well worth the price.
This is a large book with lots of information on rods, reels, collecting,
tackle manufacturing, tackle value, etc. etc. the list goes on.
You wont be disappointed!

In an era of carbon-fiber fishing rods, a seemingly endless variety of fishing
lines, and lures that run the entire spectra of color, size, shape,
and action, looking at how anglers over a century ago did their fishing
induces nostalgia. If you want to indulge that sentiment, sample Campbells
collectors survey of antique fly-fishing tackle that perforce traces
how the machine age changed the way people fished, from just after the
Civil War to the World War II era. Collectors highly prize antique rods,
reels, lures, and other pieces of tackle and can pay quite a price for
them on the open market. Using this well-researched book can help such
collectors avoid the inevitable frauds and rip-offs. Jon Kartman

Having read all the reviews of this book, I would not recommend it to anyone who is only interested in Old Lures.
The reviews of those who have bought it are mediocre to say the best !
However. it is profusely illustrated and I think it would be very useful to anyone collecting more recent lures
(some of which may still be available at modest cost )
The quantitiy of priced items seems to have disappointed some readers.(as there are not so many)
If you only get one book on antique fishing tackle then I would suggest the previous book
(Classic and Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle)
